Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Squad Versus Team India
Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected inclusion.
Recent Form Lead to Omission
The right-hander was left out from the ODI team after scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.
Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.
Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes
Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.
Renshaw is in line to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.
The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia search for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.
Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.
Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures
Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
