Pressure Doesn't Affect Me, Affirms Bullish Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou faced jeers from Nottingham Forest supporters during the recent fixture

Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou insists that any pressure regarding his position will not impact his approach.

The team remains without a victory in his initial half-dozen matches since the coach replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the club's stadium.

A group of Forest fans shouted, "you'll be dismissed in the morning", at the former Tottenham and Celtic manager following the recent 3-2 Europa League defeat at their ground to the Danish side.

Postecoglou's Response to Criticism

Postecoglou, however, mentioned that the Europa League title he won at Tottenham last season, before being sacked in the summer, was proof he does not let pressure to affect his management.

"It doesn't enter my head," he added. "My duty involves ensuring this football club progresses and reaches a level where it can compete for titles," stated Postecoglou.

"If I start putting timelines to that or stress over what is going to happen next week then I am not performing the role I have been assigned.

"I just don't think it is beneficial to anyone. At the end of the day, I have to focus on the environment, the training, the style of play, and as I said recently, I am remain very, very strong in my belief that we are close to success.

"To explain - I knew I was getting sacked at Tottenham about 3-4 months before I did, but that didn't prevent me from winning something."

Professional Background

The 60-year-old moved to Spurs from Celtic in the previous year and supporters at first warmed to the Australian for his offensive style of play, with the Londoners finishing fifth in the English top flight during his first season.

Postecoglou's following season was challenging as Spurs finished 17th in the table. He did, however, lead the team to their first trophy in nearly two decades as they defeated Manchester United in the European final.

Present Circumstances

Forest visit Newcastle United on the weekend (2pm UK time).

With the current unfavorable streak of results, there is no denying it has been a difficult start for Postecoglou.

And the numbers illustrate just how disappointing Forest have performed since his appointment.

Performance Analysis

  • In Postecoglou's half-dozen games, they have lost four times across three different competitions
  • No Premier League team has lost as many matches as Forest since his hiring
  • They have allowed thirteen scores - at a rate of 2.17 per game
  • Only Manchester United and Burnley have a worse defensive per game average than Forest since Postecoglou's arrival
  • Unexpectedly, it is the 35th occurrence in which a Premier League manager has failed to win in their initial six fixtures in every tournament

Record Perspective

Paul Jewell holds the unenviable mark, having failed to win any of his initial twenty-seven games as Derby County boss in the 2007/08 season.

Nuno was dismissed after only three matches of this campaign when Forest were tenth in the table. They are now 17th, having drawn one and been defeated twice of their three domestic games under Postecoglou.

He is the initial full-time Forest manager in 100 years not to win any of initial six fixtures.

Supporter Viewpoint

This campaign could have been one of Nottingham Forest's best in modern history. Entry into Europe for the initial occasion in 30 years, the strongest team this century and all involved working towards the same direction.

Somehow, currently, that has completely vanished out of the window. Nuno has departed, performances have been abject and on Thursday night the stadium criticized the recent appointment Ange Postecoglou after just six games.

And yet it's typically characteristic Forest, a team that shifts from achievement to self-made disaster like a novice motorist who fails to remain in a traffic line.

Upcoming Challenges

Amid fixtures against Newcastle, Chelsea, the Portuguese side, Bournemouth and Manchester United approaching, it's quite difficult to say if he can reverse the situation before it becomes increasingly negative.

But question any supporter and they'll inform you the identical thing, it's never dull at Nottingham Forest.
