Shocking Recording Shows Instant Police Are Stabbed in Ambush
A ranking policeman who rushed to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he held a blade to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist after a traffic accident in that location in summer 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Officer attacked," the constable stated over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage released by the agency showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who tripped and fell to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the pavement even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a clear shot, ending the struggle to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need assistance on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell received multiple open wounds to his throat and more cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials said Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's hemorrhaging before medical personnel came.
This most recent award follows after the law enforcement team were granted departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in early 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of each policeman ultimately rescued one another and ensured no civilians suffered any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, per authorities.
