Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous engaging independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is actually a turd striving to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, battle tough enemies and visit a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Time your movements with caution, since one error means restarting the level. Jump using air pockets to hurl the poop to new heights, cross fragile platforms, and activate switches to unlock hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS for buying tougher levels in which the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the experience boasts vibrant environments and a killer background music. Its minimalist visual style featuring morphing basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though tough to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment frequently incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, such content appears extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the full game scheduled to arrive on Steam on November 19.
